Southern Oaks Athletes Bring Home Olympic Medals
Southern Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was proud to participate in this year’s LNHA Region 6 Nursing Home Olympics in Bossier City.
The event is a series of athletic, Olympic-style events that have been adapted to the abilities of nursing facility residents. Since its inception in 1983 by the Louisiana Nursing Home Association (LNHA), this event has provided an arena for seniors to remain physically active, to socialize with peers, to compete and experience the excitement of winning. The events include Socrates trivia test, shot put and discus throw, bean bag toss, horseshoes, and a chariot (wheelchair) race. Additionally, a spirit award is given to the facility that shows the most team support and awards are given to the facilities with the best facility banner and table/booth decoration.
Our Southern Oaks athletes did an amazing job and brought home several medals. Winners include:
- Jackie Amble – Horseshoes, 2nd place
- Luis Smith – Trivia, 3rd place
- Linda Scott – Beanbag Toss, 2nd place

Southern Oaks Earns 2025 National Quality Award
The American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), which represents more than 15,000 nursing homes and long term care facilities across the country that provide care to approximately five million people each year, today announced the 2025 Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award recipients. This year, 486 skilled nursing facilities (SNF), 129 assisted living (AL) communities, and 38 combined SNF/AL providers in 46 states earned the Bronze Award, the first of three levels in the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program. The awards program recognizes organizations that meet progressively rigorous standards of quality to improve the lives of their residents.
Southern Oaks, along with several other Central Management facilities, partnered with Dream Flights to honor our residents who bravely served our country with the adventure of a lifetime: a flight in a Boeing Stearman biplane, the same aircraft used to train many military aviators in the late thirties and early forties.
